The Southeast Iowa Hamfest for 2009 is now history. This 25th hamfest was marked by a great turnout and great weather!. Our commercial vendors filled the hall and we had great swag for the door prizes! The planning for next year is officially under way. Our preliminary flier is now online. We will keep it current through out the year.
Site setup and vendor setup went as well as usual on Saturday. The evening Wiener Roast was a welcome break for club members and vendors as we gathered for food and conversation. Attendance was strong and the new pavilion made a splendid location.
The splendid weather had tailgaters displaying everything one can imagine, or so it seemed. Inside, the vendors sold the wide variety of goodies we've come to expect and that everyone took time to look over. We are grateful to all our vendors who make our 25th show worth the trip, welcoming back our stalwarts and "newbies".
A real treat was the presentation of the first ARRL Iowa Section Youth Amateur Operator Award on Sunday, October 4th.
Congratulations to the winner, Joey Freeland, KDØHFZ of Central City, Iowa! Joey received a certificate, an ARRL Repeater Directory and an ARRL Handbook!
Runners-up, Ben Fiedler, KDØDOX, of Cedar Rapids and Karl Anderson, KDØHFQ, of Ankeny each received certificates and an ARRL Repeater Directory.
All of these young hams are winners, as they have each demonstrated tremendous dedication to Amateur Radio through their activities!
Plans are underway to continue the ARRL Iowa Section Youth Amateur Operator Award next year.
We can't forget the VE team, laboring in the other building. Once again, this area boasted a number of examinees. Additionally, the internet connection provided by Liberty Communications allowed us to make copies of licenses for those who did not bring one.
